Best SEO Tools

Find the best keyword research, rank tracking, and site audit tools to grow your organic traffic.

I've spent a decade watching SEO tools get more expensive while claiming to do more. Most of them are brilliant at one thing and quietly mediocre at everything else. This is the category where you're most likely to hand over $100 a month and use a tenth of it.

Here's the honest version. If you run your own site, you do not need a $140 platform. SpyFu does competitive research for $39, and Moz Pro starts at $49 if you just want the basics. SE Ranking used to be the budget pick. It isn't any more. Core is $129 now, basically Semrush money, so anyone still calling it the cheap alternative is working off an old price list. If you do client work, Semrush or Ahrefs pays for itself with the first retained account.

What actually moves rankings, in order: knowing which keywords you can realistically win, fixing what's broken on your own site, and watching what your competitors are up to. Every tool here does those three things. They differ in depth, price, and how much they assume you already know.

I test each one with a real account and a real card, run the same audits and keyword work through every platform, and score on one framework: features, ease, value, support. 40/25/25/10. If you're small, start cheap. If you're billing clients, buy the best. Whatever you pick, open it every week. The tool you use beats the one you pay for and ignore.
